Welcome to Blue Ridge
Come and Experience Blue Ridge

Discover the matchless beauty, warm hospitality and rich heritage
of our friendly mountain community.
In 1886, the Marietta and Northern Railroad came to Fannin County, and in 1887, the town
of Blue Ridge, Georgia was born.  As a result of the railroad, the town flourished.  The golden
age of railroads is long past, but thanks to the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, you and your
children can still ride the same spectacular route beside the Toccoa River where stream
engines rumbled over a hundred years ago.
Welcome to Historic Blue Ridge, Georgia - a place you won't want to leave.

What's Typical in North and Central Georgia?
an overview of the climatology of the area comprising the
northern half of the state
Variance in the climate across North Georgia is largely a
function of terrain. Most of the northern half of the state
is made up of rolling hills with elevation ranging from
about 400 feet across the midstate to generally between
800 and 1100 feet across the rest of the area. The climate
of this region is fairly uniform. A notable exception is in
the northeast corner of the state occupied by the
Appalachian Mountains. Although average elevation in
the "Northeast Georgia Mountains" is less than 2000 feet,
there are mountains that reach elevations between 4000
and 5000 feet. The climate here differs significantly from
the rest of North Georgia.

Photo of Blue Ridge Reservoir and Power Plant
Blue Ridge Reservoir is on the Toccoa River in
north Georgia, stretching 11 miles southeast from
the dam. The river flows northwest into Tennessee,
where it’s called the Ocoee River, Blue Ridge
Reservoir is located in the Chattahoochee National
Forest of north Georgia. There’s a scenic overlook
above the dam and a shaded picnic area near the
powerhouse. The canoe and kayak launch site
below the dam gives nonmotorized boaters access
to the Toccoa River. The river is noted among
fishermen for its sunfish, trout, and bass. When
water is released from the Blue Ridge Dam to
generate electricity, the river becomes a class I-II
float through the Georgia hills. Besides providing
power and recreational opportunities, Blue Ridge
also helps control flooding
