These are guidelines for your orchids, but as with any living organism you
are the best judge to know what your plant needs and when it needs it.
Orchids are beautiful and easy to grow (despite the Urban Myth), most of
them flower once a year and when they do, it could last for up to 2 months
(each specie/plant has a different time frame)


Intermediate Level (page 3)


Odontoglossum
(hybrids: Odontonia, Ondontioda
and Vuylstekeara)

Light: Filtered bright Light, East or shadow South window
    Water: Keep Moist, but not wet. Mist in hot weather. 40 to 80% humidity.
Feed: Seasonal, Every week with half strength balanced liquid fertilizer (weekly
weakly) while plants are growing. Only use UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the
plant is well-watered beforehand, as application of fertilizer
to a dry plant can burn the plant.
Soil: fine grain open medium with very good drainage is needed
Temperature: 55-75F, avoid temperatures above 80F


Oncidium
Sea level to High elevation
Light: Filtered Light, East or West window
    Water: Keep Moist, but not wet. Mist in hot weather. Don't overwater!
    50 to 60% humidity. Hold water if cold spell is expected.
    Feed: Every week with half strength balanced liquid fertilizer
    (weekly weakly).
    Only use UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-
    watered beforehand, as application of fertilizer to a dry plant can
    burn the plant.
    Soil: An open mix fir bark, charcoal and perlite,
    mature plants prefer medium grade bark
    Temperature: 75-85F day / 55-60F night,
    if you are comfortable your orchid is comfortable



Phragmipedium
(tropical americana Slipper Orchid)
New World tropics. Terrestrials that grow streamside.

Light: Filtered Light, moderate to bright
Water: Need constant moisture, almost wet
    Feed: Every week with half strength balanced liquid fertilizer
    (weekly weakly).
    Only use UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-
    watered beforehand,
as application of fertilizer to a dry plant can burn the plant.
This is a heavy feeder (5-5-5) is Ok. Lower numbers are better.
Soil: Sphagnum mix
Temperature: Varies Cold to warm


Stanhopea
Mexico to South America
Fragrant flowers, don't last very long (3-5 days)

Light: Bright light
    Water: in ample quantities, Keep Moist, but not wet. Mist in hot
    weather.
    Feed: Every 2 week with half strength balanced liquid fertilizer.
    Only use UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-
    watered beforehand, as application of fertilizer to a dry plant can
    burn the plant.
    Soil: Bark base or Sphagnum base mix. They need to be in a
    Hanging basket. The plant itself will also hang facing down the
    basket.
Temperature: 58-80 F
Flowering mainly in the summer
