These are guidelines for your orchids, but as with any living organism you
are the best judge to know what your plant needs and when it needs it.
Orchids are beautiful and easy to grow (despite the Urban Myth), most of them
flower once a year and when they do, it could last for up to 2 months
(each specie/plant has a different time frame)

Intermediate Level (Page 1)


Anguloa (the 'Tulip Orchid')
Andean South American
Light: Moderate, 50% shade
Water: Moderately seasonal.
Feed: Every 2 weeks during the summer, none during the winter. Only use UREA-free
fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-watered beforehand, as application of fertilizer
to a dry plant can burn the plant.
Soil:  Bark base or sphagnum base mix. Open pots (net pots for greenhouses and
plastic pots for inside house)
Temperature: 58-80 F (15-29 C)
Flowering time: Spring to Fall

Angraecum ('Darwin's Orchid', 'Comet orchid')
Africa/Madagascar
Fragrant at night

Light: Brigth light, NOT FULL SUN, keep out of direct sunlight
Water: Slightly seasonal.
Feed: Every 2 weeks during the summer, every 4 weeks during the winter. Only use
UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-watered beforehand, as application
of fertilizer to a dry plant can burn the plant.
Soil: Bark base or sphagnum base mix
Temperature: Warm intermediate

Catasetum
Central to South America

Light: Abundant Light. This is dimorphic plant.
More light will produce a female plant, less light
will produce a male plant.
Water: Strongly seasonal. 40 to 60% humidity.
Feed: This is a heavy feeder plant. Every week with half strength balanced liquid
fertilizer (weekly weakly) during the summer; none during the winter. Only use
UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-watered beforehand,as application of
fertilizer to a dry plant can burn the plant.
Soil: Bark or Sphagnum moss base
Temperature: 60-85 F (15-29 C), if you are comfortable your orchid is comfortable


Cymbidium

Light: Abundant Light
Water: Keep Moist, but not wet. Mist in hot weather. 50 to 60% humidity.
Feed: Every week with half strength balanced liquid fertilizer (weekly weakly). Only
use UREA-free fertilizers. Make sure the plant is well-watered beforehand, as
application of fertilizer to a dry plant can burn the plant.
Soil: Medium grade fir bark with peat moss and perlite
Temperature: Strongly seasonal
